I’m just now getting these pictures posted, but last Saturday, Nene and Lia graduated from Palo Duro High School! I’m so excited and proud of them. Lia qualified for the ACE Scholarship and is planning on being a pediatrician. Nene graduated in the top 10 percent and qualified for a couple of other scholarships – which is great, considering she spent her senior year as a single mother. She overcame a lot to graduate. Pretty cool stuff. I have one other senior this year, Nick. Sadly, he didn’t pass his TAKS test so he couldn’t walk with his fellow seniors. He’s going to tutoring this month and retaking the test one last time. If he passes – and I know he will – he’ll get his diploma in August.
Following is Lia at graduation – walking in, receiving her diploma, and after it was over:
Now for Nene. Same order (I’m a horrible photographer, so her pictures are a little blurry, but at least you get the idea):
The goofy young teens I met when we started 5 and a half years ago are all growing up. More and more will be graduating every year, which means I’ll keep sitting through all those speaches and performances of Battle Hymn of the Republic. But it’s definitely worth it.
