Summer Needs

Mission 2540 has a whole lot of big stuff coming up, and we need your help to make it all happen. Read on. If there’s anything you want to play a part in, comment below or email me at brooks@mission2540.org.
1) YOUTH CAMP – We have 11 youth signed up to go to Extreme Camp near Dallas with the Messiah’s House youth group July 24-28. Several of the kids going are “new” to Mission 2540. They just moved in to Cypress Creek apartments in the last few months, and are non-believers. It will definitely be vital and life-changing to get them away from the craziness of their lives at home to have some fun and, more importantly, hear the Gospel and experience the love of God. Cost to send one kid to camp is $275. We’ve got 5 of the kids already sponsored, but we’re still in need of help. If you’d like to help pay part or all of the way of one of these teens, let me know!
2) BACK-TO-SCHOOL OUTREACH It’s only June, but it’s time to start planning for our school supply outreach. We’re doing it a little differently this year. We want the families to make some sort of contribution to their school supplies to give a sense of empowerment and responsibility. At the same time, we still want to this to be an outreach and relieve a burden on the families. So this year, we’re setting up a “store” at each apartment complex. Families will register in July (so we know how many backpacks we need) and then have the opportunity in August to purchase a backpack filled with appropriate supplies for each of the children for just $5. This represents really big savings while still requiring a investment. I’m excited to see how all of this comes together and how the families respond. Should be interesting! You have the opportunity to help out in the same way as you have in the past, in one of two ways.
        a) A contribution of $25 should cover the cost of one student. Send a check to PO Box 20771, Amarillo TX, 79114. We’ll purchase all the needed supplies and fill the backpacks.
        b) If you prefer to do the shopping (this is especially fun to do with your kids to help them learn about giving), let me know. Since the families are still registering, I can send you specific names and ages.
3) AGAPE CAMP I’ll be taking a big group of our kids age 8-12 to Hidden Falls Ranch for Agape Camp July 30-Aug 2. This is a free camp provided by the great folks at Hidden Falls. Kids have the chance to zip line, swim, hike, ride horses, learn archery, do crafts and more. This is the first time we’ve done one of these in the summer, and it should be a blast. We’re anticipating 40-50 kids attending. They’ll have a full staff out there for all the activities, but have requested that I bring some youth and or adults to stay and help out with crowd control and to simply love on the kids. It’s so fun to see kids do things like ride horses or climb walls for the first time ever. If you’re interested in hanging out with us for all or part of the week, please let me know. I desperately need some help!  Also, we’re going to provide camp shirts for all the kids. I’m looking for a sponsor or two to help us provide those. Cost is about $300 for the shirts.
4) GOLF SCRAMBLE – Our annual Choice Media Mission 2540 Golf Scramble is Friday, August 24 at 1 pm at Comanche Trails Golf Course. If you’re a golfer, we’d love to have you. Cost is $260 per team. If you have a business interested in sponsoring a hole or donating prizes, contact me and let me know!
I think that’s everything. We’ve got a full summer ahead. Thanks to all of you for your prayers and support which allow us to do all this great stuff to share the love of God with hurting families.
Email me or comment below f you have questions about any of the above items.
