We were able to provide backpacks filled with school supplies at our annual back-to-school outreach on Saturday, August 16. We did things a little differently this year. We received a grant at the beginning of the year to purchase all the supplies and backpacks, so we were able to get everything in bulk earlier in the year, so all we had to do was stuff backpacks for around 100 kids who signed up.
Hillside Christian Church is opening a campus just down the road for most of our at 24th and Grand this fall. Brady Clark, one of our board members, will serve as the campus pastor there. As part of their launch, they threw a big back-to-school party. So we decided to join forces with them. I invited all our families to come out, pick up their supplies (like last year, they paid $5 per kid), enjoy a cookout, and get snack packs and sweet corn from our friends at Snack Pack for Kids. All but a few families were able to meet us out there. The rest we delivered house to house. It was a big success, lots of fun, and something I’m pretty sure we’ll do again next year.
Below are photos of the fun. Please be praying for all our Mission 2540 kids, that they’ll have fun, successful school years!
