When Mission 2540 first began, we did ministry at a little apartment community called the Fairfield Apartments (now Rose Plaza). We met a young girl there named Stephani who became actively involved with Mission 2540 for many years. She and her family had been through a lot of struggles in her young life, and she seemed to love the chance to come to our weekly Bible studies.
The kind of work we do is often tough, and not always very rewarding. So it was a really welcome surprise to get a message on Facebook from Stephani last week. She gave me permission to share it here, so I’m going to, because I think all those who support Mission 2540, whether as donors or volunteers or through prayer, need to hear this is well.
“I am so happy to see that Mission 2540 is still going strong. I don’t know where I would be if you and Suzanne (Schroder), didn’t come into my life when y’all did. I see people who grew up under the same circumstances I did all the time, and it’s night and day the paths we chose to pursue. I am a junior at Southern Nazarene University, and I always get asked “how did you get here?” My mom is a custodian, who only has a middle school education, and my dad was never in the picture. Mission 2540 allowed me to experience Christ on a different level. I knew that I didn’t want to do the things that everyone around me were doing, and I started chasing after Christ. I went to church, on a bus, by myself every Sunday and Wednesday and I fell in love with Christ. I want to thank you for dedicating yourself to God’s amazing plan. The work you do is intentional and it is real. Because of your work I beat so many odds, from graduating high school, and going to college. You have made a big impact in my life. I pray that God continues to use you to mold and shape others in the work of the Lord.
Side note: all the Bible verse memorizing we did at Bible study are so paying off this semester in my New Testament class!”
Not only is Stephani attending college, but she’s also happily married and has a beautiful baby girl. She’s a hardworking, dedicated young woman. I absolutely cannot wait to see what the future holds for her. She’s going places, that’s for certain. Thanks for all of you who give and pray and help Mission 2540 as we minister to so many more future Stephani’s!
